Season guide for the Great Migration and weather.
This is generally the best time for game viewing. Waterholes dry up, forcing animals to gather around remaining water sources. Vegetation is thin, which makes animals much easier to spot. The weather is dry, sunny, and clear with low humidity.
June and July are also the best months to see the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Western Serengeti, while August to October are the peak months to witness the dramatic Mara River crossings in the Northern Serengeti.
Known as the 'Green Season', this period transforms the dry savannah into lush, green pastures. It is the best time for bird watching as migratory birds arrive in their thousands. Newborn animals can be seen in abundance, particularly during the calving season in the Southern Serengeti around January and February.
Heavy rains usually fall in April and May, prompting some seasonal lodges and camps to close. However, traveling in the green season offers lower rates and fewer crowds.
Zanzibar is hot and tropical all year round, but the best times to visit are during the dry seasons: July to October, and December to February. During these months, skies are clear and sea breezes keep temperatures comfortable.
